Womensport Launch

Lion Park's Taekwondo was asked to represent Taekwondo at the launch of Womensport at the Opera House on the 16th March 1997. The Womensport festival is an international event, held across a variety of sports each year. The launch consisted of numerous women in Martial Arts from overseas and Australia.

We were the first of the Aussies. Even though we were given only three minutes, we gave a good show of what our martial art consists of. Into those three minutes, we squashed:

• one form
• some of our different kicking techniques
• one-step sparring
• board breaking
• free sparring

All the women, who ranged from high yellow belt, to our most respected fourth dan black belt, Jenny Woods, gathered from different classes in Sydney to participate in this event. The women were strong, keoped loud, and wowed the crowd with their sparring techniques.

We hope to participate in this event in the future, as all of us found it a gratifying experience.
